Gretna Van Fleet, a 95-year-old resident of Frankenmuth, Michigan, passed away on Monday at a senior living facility. She became known as the namesake of the Grammy-winning rock band Greta Van Fleet, which was formed in 2012. The band's drummer, Kyle Hauck, recalled the name during a search for a performance title, inspired by his grandfather's mention of Gretna. In a 2019 interview, she humorously noted that the band did not initially approach her about using her name. Despite being from a different musical era, she expressed her enjoyment of the band’s music, particularly their song 'Flower Power.' The band achieved significant success, winning a Grammy for Best Rock Album in 2019 and receiving a nomination for their upcoming album 'Starcatcher' in 2024. Gretna was also musically talented, playing various instruments such as the saxophone, violin, tuba, and piano, showcasing her lifelong passion for music.
