Mayor Gary Christenson of Malden has announced the allocation of $200,000 in funding to 31 local nonprofits and community organizations through the second year of the Community Connections Grant program. This initiative aims to foster community engagement and strengthen relationships among residents, especially at a time when many feel disconnected. A total of 46 organizations applied for funding, requesting nearly $500,000, highlighting the competitive nature of the selection process. The program is funded through the Surrounding Community Agreement with Encore Boston Harbor and is administered by the City’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development. Notable grants include $15,750 awarded to St. Paul’s Parish CCG for outdoor safety improvements and significant funding for events like the Malden Juneteenth Freedom Celebration. The city plans to continue this funding annually, with the next application cycle anticipated in early 2027.
