As the new school year approaches, Iloilo City is preparing to distribute free school supplies to over 74,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. This initiative, part of the ISKUL (Initiative to Share Kits that Uplift Learners) program, aims to alleviate the financial burden on parents. The distribution of essential school kits, which will include items such as notebooks, pencils, and crayons, is scheduled for the first week of June. Mayor Raisa Treñas announced that the funding for this initiative, totaling ₱8.5 million (approximately $150,000 USD), has been sourced from the Special Education Fund and approved by the Iloilo School Board. The mayor highlighted that reviving the free school supplies program is a response to the financial struggles many families face, particularly due to rising fuel costs, and aims to significantly reduce the expenses parents incur as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
