In Kendrapara district, Odisha, the decomposed body of 23-year-old Dalit man Gouranga Sethi was found on Friday, over a week after he was reported missing. Sethi, from Mahadeipatana village, was last seen on May 27, and his father filed a complaint with the police on May 29, alleging his son had been abducted and murdered by six villagers. Following the complaint, police arrested Pratap Mahakuda, a villager, on Thursday. During interrogation, Mahakuda reportedly confessed to his role in the crime and directed investigators to the location of the body, which was concealed in a sack near Petapada village. Family members identified Sethi with the help of a shoe found at the site. Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder was motivated by a grudge related to a prior incident involving damage to vehicles in the village. Kendrapara Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kataria confirmed that forensic experts are examining the recovery site, and DNA samples from the victim's family will be collected to confirm the identity. The police are actively searching for the other suspects involved in this case.
