A UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon was attacked on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of Staff Sgt. Florian Montorio of the French military and injuries to three others, two seriously. French President Emmanuel Macron and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) blamed Hezbollah for the attack, which took place near the village of Ghandouriyeh shortly after a 10-day ceasefire was established between Israel and Hezbollah. Macron called for the Lebanese authorities to swiftly identify and prosecute those responsible for the attack. In response, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the incident and ordered an investigation. The Lebanese army stated it will continue to coordinate closely with UNIFIL and is investigating the attack.
