With Prime Video’s Bosch franchise expanding in different directions, it’s tempting to think that the best days of its titular antihero are behind him. Yet, 2026 is set to be bigger than ever for LAPD police detective and private investigator Hieronymous “Harry” Bosch, as he’s set to be played by no fewer than three different actors. Titus Welliver has defined the character’s time onscreen so far, playing him in all 10 seasons of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy combined. In the summer of 2025, Welliver also made cameo appearances in the main sequel series to these shows, Ballard. However, he’s no longer the only Harry Bosch actor in town. It’s now the turn of two fresh-faced rising stars to take center stage as this iconic neo-noir protagonist, in the Bosch franchises upcoming spinoff and prequel releases. Fans of the original Prime Video series need to get ready for two whole new versions of their favorite hard-boiled detective. Titus Welliver In Ballard At the same time, fans of Titus Welliver needn’t feel disappointed that Harry Bosch has been recast. The first actor to play the character isn’t going anywhere, as he’ll be returning as Bosch once again in Ballard season 2. In fact, we should expect Welliver to keep showing up in Ballard for the foreseeable future. The Michael Connelly novels on which the spinoff series is based all feature Harry Bosch mentoring and working alongside Renée Ballard, with the exception of her first appearance on the page, which covers a lot of her backstory before she first encounters Bosch. Welliver likely still has more years ahead of him as his most beloved character. Ballard season 2 is already scheduled for release on July 8, 2026, almost a year to the day of the show’s debut on Prime Video. We’re just a couple of months away from seeing Harry Bosch in his most celebrated guise once again. Jack Meade-Mullarkey In Ballard Titus Welliver isn’t the only actor playing Bosch in Ballard this year, though. The show will feature prominent flashbacks to the character’s early life and career, diverging from the real-time narrative storytelling in Michael Connelly’s Ballard novels. In fact, these flashbacks are adapted from elements of Connelly’s earlier books in his Bosch series. Titus Welliver’s replacement as the young Harry Bosch in Ballard season 2 will be Jack Meade-Mullarkey, a young Irish actor in his early twenties, who’s known for his small roles in Netflix’s historical action drama Vikings: Valhalla, as well as the fantasy series Warrior Nun. Meade-Mullarkey’s turn as Bosch will be by far his biggest role today, and could well be the breakout performance that secures his place as a regular fixture on both the big and the small screen. He’s likely to play the detective in his teenage years. During this period, Michael Connelly’s most famous character served in the U.S. Army as a so-called “tunnel rat”. In this capacity, he carried out highly dangerous search-and-destroy missions in the Vietnam War, which left him traumatized in later life. Cameron Monaghan In Bosch: Start Of Watch We already have the first on-set photos of Cameron Monaghan as Harry Bosch, in what’s probably the most exciting Bosch project since the original series first arrived on Prime Video. Monaghan is playing the character in the formative years of his LAPD career, which he began as a patrol officer before rapidly graduating to the role of junior homicide detective. Best-known for his portrayal of Ian Gallagher in the Showtime comedy-drama series Shameless, in addition to twin villains Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska in Fox’s superhero DC show Gotham, Cameron Monaghan is more than ready to take the step up into a lead part of this magnitude. Bosch: Start of Watch could define his career for years to come. Since this prequel features entirely original stories not based on any novel, there is almost limitless scope for its continuation on Prime Video, especially with Michael Connelly personally overseeing its production, with an executive credit on the project. Monaghan and Titus Welliver could be appearing in parallel within the Bosch franchise across the rest of this decade. - Release Date - 2015 - 2021-00-00 - Network - Prime Video - Showrunner - Eric Ellis Overmyer - Directors - Alex Zakrzewski, Ernest R.
