In a bid to enhance the connection between classroom education and practical life skills, Chandigarh's UT government schools will observe 10 bag-free days throughout the academic year. This initiative aligns with the Samagra Shiksha circular issued under the National Education Policy 2020. On these designated days, students will participate in a variety of hands-on activities including pottery, carpentry, robotics, artificial intelligence, handicrafts, and fashion designing. Additionally, they will visit museums, science parks, and hospitals, and have opportunities to interact with local artisans and professionals. The first bag-free day is set for July 4, with further activities planned across July, August, October, November, and December. Although these activities will not be graded, teachers are expected to observe and assess students informally to identify individual strengths. Special provisions will be made to include children with special needs, ensuring they receive appropriate guidance. Schools are required to prepare annual work plans and submit quarterly reports on the activities undertaken.
