Maruti Suzuki, the leading carmaker in India, reported sales of 2.4 million vehicles in FY26, reflecting an 8% increase compared to the previous year. Domestic sales rose by 4% to 1.97 million units, while exports surged by 35% to nearly 450,000 units. However, the company's market share in the passenger vehicle segment decreased to 39.2% from 40.9% in FY25, as reported by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Chairman R.C. Bhargava stated that the company is not overly concerned about this decline, attributing it to production constraints and a backlog of nearly 200,000 orders. Maruti's plants operated at near-full capacity, and the company plans to add 0.5 million units of production capacity across its Kharkhoda and Hansalpur plants in the current financial year. Revenue for FY26 climbed 20% to ₹1.83 trillion, although net profit saw a marginal increase of 1% to ₹14,679 crore. Analysts view the results as meeting expectations, indicating a stable demand trajectory despite rising commodity costs. Bhargava also highlighted a potential resurgence of small cars in the market, as the government acknowledges their affordability and importance.
