Elections for the Maharashtra Legislative Council are set for May 12, with the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) aiming to secure only one seat. The Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, is in contention, having around 20 MLAs, the highest among MVA partners. Senior leader Sanjay Raut indicated that discussions among the MVA parties will determine the candidate, emphasizing Thackeray's importance in maintaining alliance unity. If Thackeray opts not to contest, other candidates like former MLC Amabadas Danve may be considered. The Congress party, led by state president Harshvardhan Sapkal, also has several aspirants for the nomination. The election process will begin with notifications on April 23, and the last date for filing nominations is April 30. Given the current Assembly strength, the ruling alliance is expected to dominate the elections, leaving the MVA with limited opportunities.
