R Seenivasa Sethupathi, an MLA representing Tiruppattur in Sivagangai district, Tamil Nadu, has approached the Supreme Court to contest a Madras High Court ruling that prohibits him from voting in any floor test or trust vote in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. The Madras High Court issued this interim order after Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader KR Periakaruppan raised concerns over the counting process, claiming that a postal ballot intended for his constituency was incorrectly sent to another. This misdirection led to the rejection of the ballot, which Periakaruppan argues should have been counted. The TVK alliance, which currently holds 120 MLAs, now faces a potential reduction to 119 due to this ruling, impacting their slim majority in the 234-member assembly. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear Sethupathi's plea on Wednesday, as his legal team seeks to overturn the High Court's decision.
