Texas Tech University has added a significant piece to its 2027 recruiting class with the commitment of five-star defensive end Anthony Sweeney from Baltimore. Sweeney, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 230 pounds, is ranked as the No. 18 overall prospect by ESPN and the top player in Maryland. His commitment follows an unofficial visit to Texas Tech on April 4, and he joins fellow five-star recruit Jalen Brewster in enhancing the Red Raiders' reputation on the recruiting trail. Under the guidance of head coach Joey McGuire, Texas Tech has made notable strides in recruiting, including a strong performance in the transfer portal. The program signed the No. 1 transfer portal class last season and the No. 2 class this offseason, featuring key transfers like quarterback Brendan Sorsby. Sweeney's impressive stats from his junior year include 34 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He will transfer to St. Frances Academy for his senior season, further enhancing his development at one of the nation's top high school football programs.
