Phil Mickelson, the two-time PGA Championship winner, has officially withdrawn from the 108th PGA Championship scheduled for May 14-17 at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, due to a personal health matter involving his family. This decision follows his absence from the Masters in April for similar reasons. As a result of Mickelson's withdrawal, Max Homa will join the updated field of 154 players. Additionally, there are still two spots available for winners of the Truist Championship and ONEFlight Myrtle Beach Classic if they haven't already qualified. Notably, four-time PGA Championship winner Tiger Woods will not participate, as he is believed to be undergoing treatment in Switzerland after a DUI arrest. Mickelson has only played in one of LIV Golf's events this season, finishing tied for 48th in South Africa in March, and withdrew from the recent event in Mexico City. LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil expressed his support for Mickelson, emphasizing the importance of his presence at events. Meanwhile, the PGA of America has granted a special exemption to Dustin Johnson, who has a long history of participation in major tournaments despite his current low ranking.
