The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has taken significant action by serving notices to 140 red-category industries in Gurugram district, urging them to comply with new emission standards established by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in February. These standards aim to lower the maximum permissible particulate matter discharge from 80mg/Nm3 to 50mg/Nm3. Industries are now required to install upgraded anti-pollution control devices (APCDs) that will provide live emission data on the CPCB’s portal starting from August 1. The new regulations target 17 categories of highly-polluting industries, including textiles and cement factories, which are known for their significant emissions. Siddharth Bharghava, the regional officer of HSPCB, emphasized the importance of utilizing appropriate filtration systems, such as fabric bag filters for industries with boilers, to effectively capture pollutants. Compliance deadlines are set for July 31 for medium and large industries, while other categories must meet the requirements by the end of September. HSPCB has also been monitoring the implementation of an online continuous emission monitoring system (OCEMS) to ensure adherence to these new standards.
