Sandeep Thapar, known as Gora and a leader of the Shiv Sena Punjab party, expressed his concerns over the reduction of his security detail during a visit to the district police headquarters in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. After surviving a sword attack in August 2024, Thapar claimed he continues to receive threats, including calls from unidentified foreign numbers. Initially provided with four armed gunmen, his security was reduced to two, which he protested vehemently. In response to his concerns, the police reinstated three gunmen and assured him that the fourth would also be restored. The police clarified that the reduction was due to training and reassignment, not a deliberate act. Thapar criticized the security measures, suggesting that those aligned with the ruling establishment receive preferential treatment while individuals like him, who are targeted by radical elements, are left vulnerable. He emphasized that the masterminds behind his previous attack remain at large and continue to pose a threat to his safety.
