The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination, which took place on May 3, 2026, amidst serious allegations of a paper leak and other irregularities. Following an investigation prompted by inputs from central agencies and law enforcement, the NTA concluded that the integrity of the examination process could not be upheld. The agency has referred the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive inquiry. Approximately 22.79 lakh candidates who registered for the exam will not need to re-register for the upcoming re-test, as their original registration details will remain valid. The NTA will also refund the examination fees already paid by candidates. They acknowledged the inconvenience caused but emphasized that this decision was necessary to maintain trust in the national examination system.
