The Rajasthan government has initiated a significant upgrade project worth ₹225 crore (approximately $27 million USD) for key dams along the Chambal River as part of the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project Phase II. This project focuses on the Rana Pratap Sagar Dam, Jawahar Sagar Dam, and Kota Barrage, aiming to improve water management, irrigation efficiency, and power generation capacity in the Hadoti region. The Kota Barrage, built in 1960, has not seen major hydro-mechanical replacements, resulting in deteriorating conditions for its 19 radial gates and two sluice gates. The upgrade will involve the replacement of these gates and other essential systems without lowering the reservoir levels, ensuring uninterrupted drinking water and irrigation supply to Kota and Bundi districts. Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat assured that all works will adhere to quality standards and timelines, ultimately extending the lifespan of these vital structures and supporting urban development in the region.
