Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for 1,392,935 F-150 pickup trucks in the United States due to a defect that could cause unintended downshifting, thereby increasing the risk of crashes. The recall affects 2015โ2017 model year F-150 vehicles equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, manufactured between March 12, 2014, and August 18, 2017. The issue arises from an intermittent signal problem between the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), which can lead to sudden downshifts into second gear. This malfunction may result in a rapid decrease in wheel speed, causing potential loss of vehicle control. Ford has reported 444 warranty claims and two injuries related to this defect. To resolve the issue, Ford will update the powertrain control module software and replace the transmission lead frame at no cost to owners. Notifications to dealers are expected on April 15, 2026, with owner letters scheduled to be mailed between April 27 and May 1, 2026.
