Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar visited Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand to evaluate the preparedness of polling booths and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. This two-day visit is part of a broader initiative to enhance electoral readiness in remote and strategically important border areas. Upon his arrival, Kumar was greeted by local officials, including Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BVRC Purushottam. The SIR aims to create a 'pure and error-free' voter list, encouraging citizen participation in filling out Enumeration Forms. The Election Commission of India has initiated Phase III of the SIR, which encompasses over 36 crore electors across 16 states and three Union Territories. This phase is designed to optimize the electoral roll revision process by coordinating it with the ongoing Census house listing. Approximately 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house verification, supported by 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by various political parties. The revision will exclude Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh, with a separate schedule to be announced for these regions.
