Tamil Nadu Minister CTR Nirmalkumar has initiated a comprehensive assessment to combat corruption within the Madurai Municipal Corporation, promising strict action against those responsible for violations. He highlighted that the government has incurred revenue losses in the range of several hundred crores of rupees, necessitating a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding these losses. The District Collector and the newly appointed Municipal Commissioner are set to collaborate and will release a detailed report soon, which will guide the registration of criminal cases against identified violators. Additionally, Nirmalkumar announced a crackdown on illegal quarry operations, with assessments of both active and closed quarries over the past seven to eight years. The Mines Department has been tasked with this evaluation. Furthermore, the minister addressed the critical issue of inadequate sewage drainage in Madurai, stating that studies are underway to enhance the drainage systems, with immediate temporary solutions being sought to alleviate current hardships faced by residents.
