United Market KC officially opened its doors on May 20, 2025, at 3110 Prospect Ave., Kansas City, Missouri, in a space previously occupied by the troubled Sun Fresh grocery store. The new 36,000-square-foot facility aims to serve the Prospect community by offering a wide range of groceries, including fresh produce, a fully stocked salad bar, hot food, and baked goods. The grand opening was attended by local leaders, including Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, who highlighted the store's potential to foster community unity and provide healthy living options.

The previous grocery store, Sun Fresh, closed in August 2025 due to financial difficulties and safety concerns, including crime and public disturbances. United Market KC's operator, Anthony Estrada, is committed to ensuring a safe shopping environment, implementing security measures such as surveillance cameras and trained security personnel. Estrada has also created over 50 jobs for the community, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and safety. The store's opening is seen as a revitalization for an area that has lacked a grocery option for nearly a year, providing residents, especially seniors, with accessible shopping opportunities.
