Adam Yates, a 33-year-old British cyclist, has been forced to withdraw from the Giro d’Italia due to a concussion and other injuries sustained in a significant crash during stage two. The incident, which involved nearly 30 riders, occurred on a rain-soaked 221km route from Burgas to Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria. Yates collided with a barrier at high speed, finishing the stage nearly 14 minutes behind the leading pack while wearing a blood-stained kit. His UAE Team Emirates teammates, Jay Vine and Marc Soler, were also injured; Vine suffered a concussion and an elbow fracture, while Soler sustained a pelvic fracture. All three riders are currently under medical observation and will return home for recovery. Team medical director Adriano Rotunno confirmed that Yates was initially assessed for concussion but later showed delayed symptoms, leading to his withdrawal from stage three. The race will continue with a 175km flat stage from Plovdiv to Sofia on Sunday.
