Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has revoked the appointment of astrologer Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) following significant criticism from various political factions. The decision was made less than 24 hours after several parties, including the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and allies of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), expressed concerns over the suitability of an astrologer for such a high-ranking government position. Premalatha Vijayakanth, general secretary of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), questioned why Vettrivel was appointed to the OSD role instead of a less prominent position. In response to the backlash, a government order confirmed the revocation of Vettrivel's appointment. Minister R. Nirmal Kumar defended Vettrivel, stating that he had served as a media spokesperson for the party for a long time, emphasizing that personal professions should not overshadow one's role in government.
