On Sunday, Libyan forces detained ten activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla at a checkpoint in Sirte while they attempted to cross into eastern Libya en route to Gaza. The activists, hailing from countries including Spain, Poland, Italy, Argentina, Uruguay, Portugal, Tunisia, and the USA, were part of a larger land convoy consisting of 200 individuals and thirty vehicles, primarily mobile homes. This convoy aimed to challenge the ongoing blockade of Gaza by Egypt and Israel. The Global Sumud Flotilla reported that negotiations with the Government of National Stability (GNS) for safe passage had stalled, with their requests for meetings being ignored. They urged supporters to contact their governments to pressure Libyan authorities for the release of the detained activists. The group emphasized the urgency of their mission, stating that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza cannot wait for bureaucratic delays. This incident follows a similar situation in June when another land convoy was also stopped at Sirte by Libyan forces, leading to its disbandment.
