The India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) took effect on Monday, enabling Indian exporters to gain preferential access to the Omani market. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted that the CEPA will benefit sectors such as textiles, leather, plastics, marine products, automobiles, sports goods, and agriculture. On the first day, India dispatched ten consignments, including gems, jewellery, and marine products, to Oman. Bilateral trade between the two nations reached $11.18 billion in FY26, up from $10.61 billion in the previous fiscal year. Goyal noted that Indian investments in Oman would allow Indian workers to be preferred for employment, complementing the local hiring policies under Oman's Omanisation policy. Additionally, Oman has committed to lifting its ban on unpolished marble exports. The CEPA is expected to facilitate greater access for India in Oman's energy, fertilizer, and pharmaceutical sectors, with Oman expressing interest in a mutually beneficial partnership in energy projects.
