On Monday, a tragic bus accident in Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, claimed the lives of 21 people and injured more than 50 others. The bus, which was overloaded with 63 passengers on a route from Ramnagar to Udhampur, plunged nearly 100 feet down a hillside, crushing an autorickshaw before landing upside down on the road. The driver, Rohit Kumar, was arrested on Tuesday after he had been on the run since the incident. Police have registered a case against him under various sections of the Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita, including charges related to rash driving and negligence. A forensic team visited the crash site to conduct an investigation, and the regional transport authority has canceled the driver's HMV license and the bus's registration certificate. Documents revealed that the bus had several pending challans for overspeeding and dangerous driving prior to the accident.
