Paul Earle, a seismologist at the USGS, indicated that such quakes are rare in this part of the Caribbean, typically occurring within tectonic plates where seismic activity is less frequent. Although there have been no major damage reports, the quake has raised concerns, particularly in Cuba, where many buildings are in disrepair due to ongoing economic challenges.
