Samsung Electronics has successfully negotiated a deal to prevent a strike at its chipmaking division, which was approved by 73.7% of union members. This agreement secures substantial bonuses for workers, with estimates suggesting an average bonus of 513 million won (around $340,000 USD) for 57,302 employees. The deal also includes a 6.2% salary increase and a home loan option. The potential strike had raised concerns over global supply chain disruptions, particularly in high bandwidth memory (HBM) production, which is crucial for AI companies. With Samsung and its rival SK Hynix being major players in the HBM market, the deal’s approval is seen as critical for maintaining supply levels. Following the announcement, Samsung's shares increased by 8%, reflecting investor confidence in the company's financial stability, which ranks it as the 19th highest in global earnings and expected to be the second highest in operating profit after Saudi Aramco this year.
