Michael Carrick's first summer transfer window in charge at Manchester United looks set to be a manic one. The Old Trafford icon has already delivered his old team back to the Champions League but is now ready to be handed the reins in the market. Among the first orders of business for United will be to resolve Marcus Rashford 's future. And the England forward has received a major update regarding his chances of competing a permanent move to Barcelona following a fruitful loan at the Camp Nou. There's also been a dramatic twist regarding the race for one Premier League star who could replace his compatriot. Latest United news and more on our dedicated Facebook page The odds of Rashford joining Barca on a permanent deal appear to have improved after Hansi Flick green-lit the move. Reports in Spain suggest the German coach has informed Rashford he's counting on him returning to Catalonia once again. It recently came to light that Barcelona would prefer that to be in the form of another loan , with a view to making the move permanent in 2027. However, United are unwilling to accept those terms as they seek to sanction a sale this summer. Flick's assurance is a significant turn in the tale given it means he may apply pressure on Barcelona's board to complete a deal now. It's well-known La Liga's back-to-back champions aren't in the most financially secure position, but United will hope Robert Lewandowski's exit will free up the funds necessary to keep Rashford on board. It's long been known that Barcelona can turn Rashford's move permanent for a fee of around £26million. The Spaniards have attempted to negotiate that figure down but United are standing firm on the figure for a player who has 14 goals and 14 assists this term. In the event Flick doesn't get his man, United will presumably be happy to put Rashford in the shop window and potentially secure an even better sale figure. Meanwhile, Carrick would welcome the player back to Old Trafford in what could still be a major twist in the coming months. If Rashford does leave the club, one name in the frame to replace him will be West Ham's Jarrod Bowen . However, United will be far from the only Premier League powerhouse chasing his signature . The Guardian reported West Ham will need to raise £100m from player sales this summer in the event they're relegated. And England ace Bowen will be one of the leading candidates to be sold in the event the east Londoners go down. It's understood Liverpool and Chelsea are also keeping close tabs on Bowen's situation. Liverpool in particular could prove fierce competition after previously being linked with the forward and Mohamed Salah's exit will necessitate reinforcements. Bowen, 29, has eight goals and 10 assists so far this season ahead of Sunday's relegation decider at home to Leeds. Realistically, the Hammers need to beat Leeds and hope Spurs, who are currently two points ahead, lose at home to Everton to stand a chance of survival. United may make a move for Bowen even if West Ham stay up given Nuno Espirito Santo's side will need to sell of talent regardless. It's believed the Red Devils are fans of Bowen's versatility in attack but the stiff competition for his signature could complicate matters.
