BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari announced on Wednesday that an inquiry commission will be established to investigate various incidents of atrocities in West Bengal, including the Sandeshkhali and RG Kar rape-murder cases. The commission will be led by a retired High Court judge, and if any wrongdoing is found, FIRs will be filed against the accused. Additionally, a retired Supreme Court judge will handle investigations into institutional corruption. Adhikari, who recently won in both Bhabanipur and Nandigram constituencies, stated he would vacate one seat within 10 days, with the party's central leadership deciding which one to retain. He also highlighted improvements in the electoral process, thanking the Election Commission for ensuring a peaceful election, which allowed more residents from high-rises in Bhabanipur to vote, compared to previous elections where access was restricted. Adhikari emphasized the BJP's efforts to create safe houses for voters following the post-poll violence in 2021, where approximately 110,000 individuals were displaced from their homes.
