Billionbrains Garage Ventures, which runs the online investment platform Groww, has reported a significant 122% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹686 crore for the quarter ending in March, with revenues rising 87% to ₹1,505 crore. This growth is attributed to strong user engagement and heightened market activity. However, the company cautions that continued selling by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) is creating a mixed operating environment. While such selling typically drives increased trading activity, particularly in derivatives and commodities, it also raises costs associated with risk management. Importantly, sustained FII outflows could negatively impact investor sentiment over the medium term, potentially slowing user acquisition and asset inflows onto the platform. This situation highlights the dual nature of FII activity: while it can stimulate short-term trading through volatility, prolonged selling pressure risks hindering the long-term growth of retail participation in capital markets.
