In a tragic incident on the evening of May 24, 2026, four individuals were killed in a shooting in Barangay San Rafael Abajo, Santo Tomas, Isabela. The deceased include Jimmy Paeste Jr., the chair of Barangay Colonguan, and Police Corporal Frederick Bautista of the Santo Tomas Municipal Police Station. The attack occurred while the victims were having dinner during a village fiesta, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on their table. Bautista and Paeste died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds, while two others succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to a local hospital. Four additional individuals were wounded, including Police Master Sgt. Jayson Acierto. In response, police have launched a dragnet operation, establishing checkpoints and sending alerts to surrounding police stations to locate the suspects. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, and authorities are working to identify the gunmen.
