This event brought together 584 seaweed farmers and collectors from Ramanathapuram and Pudukkottai districts to discuss the Seaweed Manifesto, a UN-backed initiative aimed at promoting the significance of seaweed in food security, climate change mitigation, and marine ecosystem restoration. The meeting was inaugurated by Akhil Thampi, Wildlife Warden and Director of GoMBRT, Ramanathapuram, alongside other experts including M. Chinnakuppan and K. Padmakumar, who shared insights on the challenges faced in seaweed farming. Participants actively engaged in discussions, raising questions that were addressed by a panel of experts. The event also featured the release of a poster on seaweed by Senior Scientist R. Saravanan and highlighted new seaweed-based products developed by ICAR-CMFRI. The session was presided over by K. Vinod, Principal Scientist at the Mandapam Regional Centre, and concluded with a vote of thanks by M. Sankar.
