During a passing-out parade for 66 Civil Excise Officers at the Excise Academy in Thrissur, Kerala's Excise and Cooperation Minister M. Liju announced plans to bolster the Excise department with modern technology aimed at curbing substance abuse among youth and students. Liju indicated that a comprehensive long-term liquor policy would soon be unveiled, urging the new recruits to maintain integrity, dedication, and discipline in their duties. The ceremony celebrated the diverse educational backgrounds of the trainees, which included 41 graduates, seven postgraduates, and others with technical qualifications. In conjunction with World Environment Day, the Minister marked the occasion by planting fruit saplings on the academy grounds. The event also featured awards for outstanding cadets and financial support for the family of Aneesh, a former temporary staff member who had passed away. Despite challenging weather, the event attracted approximately 1,000 attendees, including Excise Commissioner Seeram Sambasiva Rao and Academy Director T.M. Maju, who also received the salute from the new officers.
