In Chennai, students of Classes I-III at several CBSE schools have not received their new Tamil textbooks as the academic year commenced. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) produces these textbooks, which are essential for Tamil-language instruction. This year, SCERT introduced revised editions for lower primary grades, but many schools reported delays in placing orders or collecting the books. A principal from a well-known school on OMR stated that while they received textbooks for Classes III-X, those for Classes I and II are still pending, with expectations of arrival by next week. Another principal confirmed they ordered the books but had yet to pick them up. Concerns were raised by former principal Venkateswaran, who warned that continued delays might compel schools to revert to the outdated curriculum. In response, Education Minister Rajmohan assured that any logistical issues would be resolved, emphasizing that all schools must utilize the new textbooks.
