On Mother's Day, daily worship resumed at the Bastin Bazar Durga Mandir in Asansol, West Bengal, fulfilling a campaign promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The temple, which is 75 years old, had been closed for regular puja since 2009 due to ongoing legal disputes, including a pending case in the Calcutta High Court. It had only been open during major festivals like Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, and Kali Puja. Following the May 4 election results, approximately 20,000 people visited the temple to offer prayers, and local residents came together to clean the premises. Trustee Sanjay Agarwal of the Sri Sri Durga Mata Charitable Trust stated that, after discussions with local police, a notice has been posted allowing devotees to worship for two and a half hours each morning and evening. Newly elected MLA Krishnendu Mukherjee criticized the previous suspension of daily worship, attributing it to vote-bank politics, and assured that communal harmony would be maintained in the area.
