Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders have sharply criticized the Kolkata Police's recent visit to the home of Abhishek Banerjee, the party's general secretary and MP, deeming it 'undemocratic' and indicative of 'autocratic' governance in West Bengal. TMC leader Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay questioned the police's involvement, asserting that Banerjee had sought clarification from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation regarding alleged violations but received no response. Kalyan Banerjee further accused the administration of selective action against TMC while protecting BJP affiliates. In response to reports of a notice from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation regarding illegal constructions linked to Banerjee, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) dismissed the claims as 'false' and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of leaking information to discredit TMC leaders. BJP's Suvendu Adhikari countered these claims by alleging that several individuals associated with TMC, including Banerjee, own numerous properties illegally, promising that the BJP government would take legal action against corrupt individuals.
