The Open Network has announced plans to rename its cryptocurrency Toncoin back to its original name, Gram, which was first introduced in the 2018 whitepaper. This decision has resulted in a 15% increase in the token's price, rising from approximately $1.95 to over $2.25, although it has since stabilized around $2.07. Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram and TON, stated that this change symbolizes a return to the project's roots. The rebranding is part of a broader strategy known as the 'Make TON Great Again' roadmap, which aims to improve the infrastructure and user experience within Telegram, ultimately targeting a seamless Web3 super app for its billion users. Importantly, the transition does not require a token swap, ensuring that all existing balances and addresses remain intact. Despite the positive market response, Gram is still approximately 75% below its all-time high of $8.25 recorded in June 2024.
