The Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA) has announced a significant infrastructure expansion plan worth ₹1,220 crore to address ongoing power outages and meet the rising electricity demands of the city. This initiative comes in light of record electricity consumption during the recent summer months, which highlighted vulnerabilities in Lucknow's aging transmission network. The plan includes the construction of four new high-capacity substations, with the largest being a 765 kV facility at IT City, estimated to cost ₹600 crore. This substation will serve as a key transmission hub for one of the city’s rapidly growing urban areas. Other proposed substations include a 400 kV facility at Varun Vihar and two 220 kV substations at Wellness City and Naimish Vihar, each costing around ₹160 crore. The project aims to benefit approximately 50 lakh residents and accommodate future demands from new townships and commercial developments. With construction expected to begin next year, officials emphasize the urgency of this expansion to prevent further strain on the existing power infrastructure.
