The Coalition for Sex Workers Sexual and Gender Minorities Rights (CSGMR) and other organizations have expressed strong opposition to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill 2026, which was introduced in the Lok Sabha in March. During a press conference in Yadgir, Karnataka, leaders from these organizations, including Trimurti K. and Christiraj, stated that the Bill could severely harm the rights of transgender and gender-diverse communities. They highlighted that the amendment would force individuals to validate their gender identity through medical examinations, contradicting the Supreme Court's 2014 ruling in NALSA vs Union of India, which affirmed the right to self-identify without medical or administrative permission. The activists emphasized that instead of safeguarding the rights of the transgender community, the Bill threatens to erase them. They called for the immediate withdrawal of the Bill and urged the government to engage in meaningful consultations with the community during policymaking. Additionally, they condemned a recent district administration order preventing transgender individuals from begging for a livelihood, demanding its retraction. The organizations stressed the importance of upholding dignity, equality, and human rights for all individuals.
