On Maharashtra's foundation day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, celebrating the state's historical significance and achievements. Modi described Maharashtra as a 'confluence of valour, devotion, reform, and dynamism,' shaped by figures such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. He highlighted key milestones, including the UNESCO recognition of Maratha forts and the acknowledgment of Marathi as a classical language. The Prime Minister noted Maharashtra's role as a leading investment destination, citing major infrastructure projects like the Mumbai Metro expansion and the Navi Mumbai International Airport, along with record railway funding of ₹24,000 crore (approximately $2.9 billion USD). Modi emphasized the importance of the year 2026, which will commemorate significant anniversaries, and reiterated that the vision of 'Vikasit Maharashtra' is integral to achieving the national dream of 'Vikasit Bharat 2047'. He also praised Fadnavis for his initiatives to improve water accessibility in Marathwada.
