Students at Lady Shri Ram College for Women in New Delhi organized a peaceful sit-in protest on April 16, expressing concerns over Principal Dr. Kanika Ahuja's appearance in a video posted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the Women's Reservation Bill. The students clarified that their protest was not against the bill itself but against the college's perceived 'apolitical stance.' They demanded accountability from the principal, questioning her representation of the college on a political platform. However, the protest escalated as students reported intimidation from the administration, including threats of disciplinary action and pressure on their families. Many students felt unsafe, stating they were under constant surveillance and had to conceal their identities. The administration's responses to their concerns were reportedly dismissive, further fueling tensions. By the end of the day, police were stationed outside the college gates, contributing to the charged atmosphere on campus.
