Zoravar Singh Sandhu, the top-ranked trap shooter in Asia and currently ranked No. 6 in the world, has not been included in India's shotgun team for the Asian Games scheduled from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan. Despite his impressive record, including a bronze medal at the World Championships in October 2022, Zoravar's recent performances in domestic trials were deemed insufficient by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). He had previously been ranked world No. 4 just a month ago, but a dip in form during the National Championships affected his selection. Zoravar has called on the NRAI to reconsider its decision, citing his superior international scores over the past six months. However, NRAI officials, including secretary-general Pawankumar Singh, have stated that the selection policy, established over a year ago, will be strictly followed, making it unlikely for Zoravar to be included in the final squad. The selected team currently includes Kynan Chenai, Ahvar Rizvi, and Shapath Bhardwaj, with Singh indicating that this lineup is “99 per cent” final. Zoravar, who recently competed as a 'zero' shooter at the ISSF World Cup in Almaty, still achieved the highest score among Indian participants, further emphasizing his capabilities despite the selection setback.
