The City of Portland, Oregon, has announced that seven outdoor pools will open on June 18, 2023, providing free public swim sessions throughout the summer. Six of the pools will offer one free open play swim session each week, part of the Portland Parks & Recreation Department’s Summer Free For All program. The sessions will occur at various times throughout the week, with Creston Pool open on Mondays, Grant Pool on Wednesdays, Montavilla Pool on Tuesdays, Peninsula Pool on Tuesdays, Sellwood Pool on Wednesdays, and Pier Pool on Thursdays. The Ida B. Wells Pool will not participate in the free sessions but will provide other programs. All pools, except for Peninsula, will operate until August 23, while Peninsula will remain open through September 7. Additionally, the Free Swim Week from June 22 to 26 offers complimentary swim lessons for families, with registration available both in person and online. New rules mandate adult supervision for children under 14, ensuring safety in the pools. Residents can also apply for the Access Discount Program to reduce admission fees by up to 90%.
