In a significant development in the alleged fraud case against Bang Si-Hyuk, the founder of HYBE, Seoul police have applied for a warrant for his detention. Bang is suspected of violating capital market laws by misleading early investors about the company's initial public offering (IPO). Reports indicate that he encouraged investors to sell their shares to a private equity fund linked to him while secretly preparing for HYBE's public listing. If found guilty of these allegations, which include misleading investors and benefiting from undisclosed transactions, he could face severe penalties, including life imprisonment if the gains exceed 5 billion KRW (approximately $3.64 million). In response to the ongoing investigation, Bang has announced plans to donate 711,534 shares of HYBE, roughly 1.65% of the company’s total shares, to fund performance-based compensation for executives and employees. HYBE is known for managing prominent K-pop groups such as BTS, Tomorrow X Together, and NewJeans.
