Brad Keselowski, co-owner and driver of RFK Racing, has highlighted the urgent need for the team to acquire a NASCAR Cup Series charter before the 2027 season. Currently, there are no charters available for purchase, and if one does become available, it could cost between $40 million and $80 million. This situation arises following a legal dispute involving Legacy Motor Club and Rick Ware Racing, which resulted in RFK Racing losing access to a charter previously leased for Ryan Preece's No. 60 car. As of now, Keselowski's team holds two charters for his No. 6 car and Chris Buescher's No. 17 car, leaving Preece's future uncertain. The NASCAR charter system, which has a limited number of charters, complicates the acquisition process, as no new charters are being issued unless a new manufacturer enters the series. The recent settlement of an antitrust lawsuit has made charters permanent, increasing their value and reducing the likelihood of current owners selling. Preece, who is performing well this season, expressed his desire to stay with RFK Racing, emphasizing the importance of securing a charter for his future with the team.
