His wife, Piyali Chatterjee, recounted that they were returning home after a birthday party when their car accidentally hit a parked motorbike. After Debdeep apologized, a quarrel ensued, leading to a violent assault where he was punched and fell, hitting his head on the road. He was declared dead at a nearby hospital. Congress leaders allege that the attackers are associated with Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor Animesh Das, who denied any connection. Rahul Gandhi condemned the incident as “utterly reprehensible,” accusing TMC of fostering a culture of violence against political opponents in West Bengal. He called for immediate arrests and justice for Debdeep’s family. Following the incident, local Congress workers protested outside the police station, demanding action.
