In Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal, the chief of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), is focusing on rebuilding the party through a quieter, grassroots approach as Assembly elections approach. Between February 23 and April 11, he completed 40 'Punjab Bachao' rallies across various districts, engaging directly with voters rather than relying on large public gatherings. Senior SAD leader Sikandar Maluka noted a positive response from the public, particularly after the party's involvement in relief efforts during recent floods. The SAD has seen a marked improvement in its electoral performance, notably securing second place in the Tarn Taran Assembly seat, up from fourth in the last election. Additionally, Badal is open to forming an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming elections, with the decision resting with the BJP. He has been actively listening to community concerns, including issues like power cuts and farmers' debt, and visiting significant religious sites to connect with supporters.
