Vinesh Phogat, who won gold at the 2018 Asian Games, has publicly challenged the Wrestling Federation of India's (WFI) decision to bar her from competition despite receiving clearance from the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Vinesh stated that if she had violated any doping rules, NADA would have issued a show-cause notice or a ban, which has not occurred. She explained that a missed whereabouts notification, due to personal circumstances, was the only issue raised. The WFI invoked WADA's Rule 5.6.1, which relates to retired athletes returning to competition, to rule her out of domestic events until June 26, 2026. Vinesh emphasized that international authorities have accepted her eligibility, questioning the WFI's stance. She shared a letter from the International Testing Agency confirming her eligibility to return to competition starting January 1, 2026.
