On Thursday, Atal Dulloo, the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, chaired a high-level meeting to assess the preparations for the annual Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to commence on July 3, 2023. The meeting highlighted the expected increase in pilgrim attendance this year, prompting Dulloo to instruct various departments to enhance infrastructure and services. Notably, he directed the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to complete snow clearance on all Yatra tracks by May 15 and to maintain roads, install signages and crash barriers, and restore shelter sheds along the routes. The Public Works Department (PWD) was tasked with finishing road macadamisation around base camps. Additionally, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) will provide Doppler-based weather forecasts and set up LED screens for real-time updates at base camps. Telecom service providers are also required to ensure robust mobile and internet connectivity along the pilgrimage routes by the same deadline.
