In Ahmedabad's Ghatlodia area, fifty residents have fallen ill with symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting after drinking contaminated water that entered their supply from a drainage system. Among the affected, 11 individuals were hospitalized. Civic officials reported that the contamination occurred four days prior, impacting nine residential societies. Dr. Bhavin Solanki, Medical Officer of Health at the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), confirmed that residents complained of dirty water, leading to the health issues. While local residents allege that hundreds have suffered from the contaminated supply, AMC Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani stated that only 50 cases were documented, with medical teams conducting outpatient consultations. Following the incident, the AMC has deployed four medical vans and 40 health teams to the area to assist residents. The contamination was attributed to a breakdown in water and drainage pipelines, which has since been repaired, and officials assured that all hospitalized patients are safe.
